We decided to do a little experiment about 4 months ago, Coated some red oak boards with Glitsa Multikote, Precision Swedish finish, Glitsa Max Waterbase Base, Bona Mega HD Waterbase, Duraseal Duraclear Max Waterbase and Loba 2k Supra waterbase. All have Three coats.
We Then left them outside in a spot that gets direct sunlight for 3-4 hours a day, they also got rained on etc.
This is a true testament to how much our industry has improved with time and technology. The 2 part oil modified urethane/alcohol based finishes (that requires a vacant home and a 5-7 off gassing period, respirators are required to apply it) are extremely orange and worn. All of the 2 part much lower VOC waterbased finishes held true to the “non ambering tag” and show a lot less wear. So often we hear guys rant and rave about how oil modified urethanes/alcohol based finishes are better than any water base finish out there. And they will tell their customers that!
Well......The proof is in the pudding folks. Next up is to do the same with penetrating oils!
