GARDEN MAINTENANCE AND PESTS
Overgrown vegetation and unmanaged landscapes can attract pests to your property.
Being in the subtropics, plants quickly grow and it’s easy for shrubs and trees to be unwieldy.
Regular pruning of shrubs and trees is important especially during the summer months for those close to the house or overhanging the roof.
You don’t want to provide access to the roof cavity for any pest or native animal.
Accumulated leaves, mulch, and other debris near your home and timber fence can harbour pests like termites and rodents.
Termites especially love moist timber. When debris mounts up against any timber structure this can become a food source for termites.
A termite colony can be attracted to your property if your timber fence remains moist at the base from being enveloped in mulch or soil.
Clear any build up around the base of the timber palings so they can completely dry out after being wet from rain or watering.
Once termites are on your property they will look for new food sources which could be your home.
It's important to be diligent in the exterior house maintenance too.
Unsealed Entry Points such as cracks in walls, gaps around windows and doors, and other openings can serve as entry points for pests.
Improperly sealed vents can allow pests to enter your home.
Torn or damaged window and door screens can allow pests to enter.
Having your gardens and yard well maintained will reduce your risk of pest infestations.
