INDICATORS YOU MAY HAVE TERMITES
Understanding how termites behave will help to detect if you have termites on your property.
To protect themselves from predators and to keep cool, termites like to travel in mud tubes.
This is commonly called, mudding.
They build these mud tubes to give them access from the nest to a new food source - timber, preferably damp timber.
To avoid detection they will travel from underground and build their mud tunnel along the foundation.
As you can see from the photos, the mud tunnels have a very low profile. You have to go looking for them.
Another indicator of the presence of termites is blistered or peeling paint on timber. Timber that has been eaten by termites loses its structure and paint can easily flake and peel off.
If the timber is hollow, that could certainly be an indication.
After mating and starting another colony termites shed their wings. If you see collections of tiny translucent wings around windows, doors and other entry points that would indicate a termite infestation.
If you have detected any of these signs, there are two important things to do. Firstly, do NOT disturb the termites. Any disturbance will cause them to scatter and develop colonies in multiple locations. That’s the last thing you need!
Secondly, call us to assess the extent of the termite infestation and develop a treatment plan to eradicate them.
If you have any suspicions about possible termite infestation, please call to book a termite inspection.
