SIMPLE WAY TO DETER TERMITES
If you have garden beds adjoining your wall, this potentially could provide an access point to your home for termites.
By their very nature, termites love cool moist environments. They actually build mud trails that they travel through to keep their body temperatures cool and prevent dehydation.
Also, they will travel through soil and debris to access a food source - timber.
That’s why it’s very important to not have garden beds or debris adjoining a house wall.
However, termites do not like and will not travel over hot or dry surfaces in search of food.
Exploiting their aversion for hot or dry surfaces, a simple way to deter termites from entering your house via the garden is to place a barrier of pebbles between the garden and the house.
Dig down to remove soil and backfill with pea gravel. Termites find it very difficult to navigate through pea gravel. To co-ordinate with your house colour you can place nice pebbles over the top which also deter termites by being a hot or dry surface.
This is a relatively inexpensive termite deterent that could potentially save you thousands!
