We were called to a residence in Capalaba where the owner noticed these ‘mud tracks’ going up the wall of the house. They weren’t there the week before and suspected they might be termites.
Termites don’t like the open air so they travel underground. When they come to the surface foraging for food they build mud tubes or ‘leads’ which are made from saliva and mud. This protects them from predators, heat and dehydating.
The resident had made the right assumption and these were definitely termites. It was a shock to realise they were not active on the property the week prior but in a matter of days had built a number of mud tubes in search of an access point to the house.
