REDBACK SPIDERS
Part of our pest control service is eradicating spiders especially redback spiders. Whilst redback spiders are noted for being venomous, it’s actually only the female that is venomous. But who is going to know whether the spider you are seeing is male or female?
As redback spiders are found throughout Australia, there are over 250 cases where antivenom was administered. They can make you feel quite unwell and even cause death. Most bites occur over the summer months and there’s a reason for this.
Redbacks are nocturnal and the female will conceal herself during the day. As we’re outdoors so much during summer, there is greate opportunity we can intersect with a redbback. They can be found in toys left in a sandpit, cubby house, gardening gloves or boots, the shed, letterbox, and a myriad of other places. Essentially anywhere they can potentially hide like under outdoor furniture.
Here are some tips for keeping your home redback free:
- Clean your outdoor furniture
- Remove any webs
- Remove the egg sacs
- Check your shoes, gloves and toys before use
Clear any clutter around the house
- Tidy your garden
- Call us so we can eradicate them - good option!
