There are numerous varieties of cockroaches. One such variety is that prolific breeder - the German Cockroach. Its origin was thought to have been from Europe but common consensus is that it originated from Southeast Asia.
This breed of cockroach has migrated all round the world. Probably gained free passage with goods imported from the region or with tourists and travellers who have unwittingly had one or two sneak into their luggage or goods they have bought overseas.
They are a small, light brown cockroach so it would be easy not to see them.
The biggest issue with having an infestation of German Cockroaches is their rapid rate of breeding. They just breed continuously so their population can explode rapidly. It’s not just the volume of them that’s the issue, but they spread disease and can spoil your food.
