TERMITE INSPECTION GUMDALE 4154

Our client at Gumdale had lovely raked ceilings in their loungeroom. What was behind that timber ceiling wan’t quite so lovely!

During the termite inspection, our pest inspector used his thermal imaging camera to check for signs of termites in the raked ceiling.

This camera can detect heat mass behind walls without having to open or damage the walls. Importantly, if there are active termites they won’t be disturbed and spread to other locations.

It revealed a couple of things something quite unwanted. Firstly, it picked up there was moisture in the timber indicative of a roof leak.

Secondly and most concerning, the areas shaded red indicated high heat evidence of active termites. Termite colonies generate high heat mass over 30C and a reading showing full shade of red it was termites.

Termites love moist timber and where there’s a roof leak, the timber is being moistened every time it rains. This becomes an ideal food source for a termite colony.

The take away from this is to have your roof checked regularly. Some opinions on the net suggest a tile roof be inspected twice a year and especially after a big storm.

Of course, the obvious thing to do is to have an annual termite inspection. Our pest inspectors will guide you on how to prevent termites taking up residence in your home. Regular termite inspection can nip an infestation in the bud preventing a big repair bill.
