TERMITE COLONY
Termites like to keep cool and not be exposed to sunlight or predators. They can quickly dehydrate and die if they are not in a subterranean environment or akin to that.
They like being somewhere moist and hidden from sight such as in the earth, tree trunks, and in this case a big box.
Quietly tucked away in a garden shed, the termites began a colony. Because termites like to live in soil, they used soil to build their colony in this box.
It is actually fascinating to see the extensive structure they built to keep their environment cool, create ‘laneways’ for them to travel throughout the colony. In this instance they were excellent workers in construction.
They’re predisposition for eating eating timber precludes them from being hired in the building and construction industry! 😂
Our Pest Technician eradicated the termites before dismantling the nest and disposing of it. He is about to drop in the wheelie bin which helps to give perspective on how big it is.
The moral of the story is to check your forlorn garden shed. Apart from termites you may find a redback spider or two enjoying free board.
If you happen to find pests or rodents in your shed, please call us immediately. Especially in the case of termites, do not disturb them. Once disturbed they can quickly establish new colonies and multiple the extent of the termite problem.
