We’ve started a new deck renovation project in Kirkland!
The existing deck had rotting wood boards and an old frame built with joists spaced 24 inches apart, which no longer meets current building codes (now required 16" OC). After removing the old decking, we’ll evaluate whether we can reinforce the existing frame or will need to build a completely new substructure.
The homeowner is considering natural cedar decking, but we’ve also recommended composite decking for its long-term durability, low maintenance, and modern appearance.
