Surprisingly, San Francisco homes are more affordable now than six years ago — one of only two major U.S. markets bucking the trend. Thanks to high incomes and stable (even declining) prices, about 11% of renters can now afford a median-priced home, up from 9.1% in 2019. Still, with new mortgages averaging $10,420/month, affordability here remains far below the national average.
