I had a wonderful experience here. I’ve been looking for a mechanic since moving to Portland, and they’ve 100% earned my business. Not only was I given great (and same day!) service, but also given some common sense and money saving advice for the long term care of my Honda. They really went above and beyond. Also gave me a loaner car!

This has been the best experience I’ve ever had with car maintenance. John and Al go above and beyond to make sure your car is running the way it should. They both are exceptional at what they do and really take care of their customers. I’ve been recommending them to everyone!

I hate to leave a negative review, but I’d give them -5 stars if I could. Dane motors took a job of replacing an abs module for my Prius, which they never should have. They started the job in late October of 25 and it’s still ongoing. After their first failed attempt, I had to drive it around while they looked for a viable part. The 2nd one they got was the wrong part so I had to drive it around some more. After over 3 months, they finally got the right part, or so they said and assured me the car would be ready by mid-day today. They never called to notify anything (horrendous communication is the norm)and when I called, they said “It’ll be ready when it’s ready.” Worst experience I’ve ever had with a mechanic. If you have a job that’s even remotely complicated, go elsewhere. Edit: Dane Motors has a big communication problem. Alan, the manager, will say that the car is being worked on, while John, the owner will say the part is not here yet. In other words, they lie.

Was selling someone who claimed to be the owner of the shop by the name of rio loza an RV on facebook marketplace, he said to bring it by his shop to take a look at 1:30 we came by and he was on a job and not ready to buy the RV like he said, told us to park the RV on a random street by his shop and he'd look at it later, we cant leave our RV on a random street in Portland especially when we live in Vancouver, waste of time and gas coming down to his shop for a sale just to get blown off, said he'd come by Vancouver to look at it after 5, we couldve made this arrangement instead of wasting time, he never showed up to Vancouver, mind you we had to spend $519 to winch out the RV from where it was initially parked on a friend's farm on sauvie island because it was stuck in the mud and we couldnt park it in Vancouver because Vancouver laws don't allow RVs parked on the street, extremely unprofessional, he later said he'd meet this weekend which we knew was a load of crap, do not bring your vehicle here for a repair I wouldn't trust this guy to even change a sparkplug properly let alone without probably over charging some naive person. Was definitely trying to rip us off somehow! Ive read some really horrible reviews from this shop before posting this one and a lot of people seem to have a problem with them being scandalous dirt bags, they reply to every review calling them out saying they arent scammers but they are just 100% trying to save face. There's ZERO possibility this many people are accusing this shop of scandalous behavior and they somehow arent scammers, not possible. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE!!!!! Updated: They replied to this review saying rio isnt the owner therefore I shouldnt leave a review like this, yet you people are employing someone using your place of business to conduct a scam, I read plenty of other negative reviews before I went ahead and posted this one, and again, this IS NOT the first time employees have tried running game on people, as a business owner myself if my employees are using my place of business to conduct a scam they would be swiftly terminated from employment especially if they claimed to be the owner of the shop, I would apologize to the person leaving a negative review, not tell them not to leave the review they left, dont try and save face with me I really dont care for it!!!!! Unprofessional scandalous people that do not know how to conduct good business practices.

Took the car in for a diagnostic due to car making vibrating noise and advised to take it back to dealership to fix. After dealership did their diagnostic it was not the recall. Called shop and Alan the manager basically said if they made a wrong diagnostic it happens and he would not refund the fee 185 or provide a solution. Long story short is Alan has poor customer service and has no clue how to work with people and don’t fix mistakes. He said he will get the owner John to call but that hasn’t happen. I definitely don’t recommend Dane motor shop. Get prepared to be scammed.

The people at Dane Motors handled fixing my car no problem and went out of their way by giving me a loaner car to use. 5 stars all the way. Price was high because of the work I needed done, but fair that being said

Absolutely, fixed my tail light in a flash also comes highly recommended by many people! I'm taking my car there for the next repair, hopefully this week!

I rarely write reviews, but the experience I had at Dane Motors was frustrating enough that others deserve to be warned. I had gone to this shop for a few years and the repairs where mostly good, needing to come back to reset the radio or reconnect the occasional sensor. This time was the last time I will get my care serviced here. From the start, communication was terrible. I brought my car in on a Tuesday and they said they would call me before end of day about what repairs are needed, they ended up keeping my car until Friday, and I heard nothing about what was wrong until mid Wednesday morning. I had to text just to get basic updates on my vehicle — each time getting vague information. The repairs they said where needed made little sense, such as a blown axel, when there is no change in my driving, no rattle, no shake. When I finally received the bill, it was significantly higher than what was originally quoted. Why? They attempted to tack on additional services that I never approved — including repairs and maintenance that, after getting a second opinion, I found out were completely unnecessary. This place clearly counts on customers not knowing much about their vehicles so they can pad the invoice with mystery charges and made-up “urgent” fixes. It’s dishonest, predatory, and unethical. Save yourself the time, money, and aggravation. Go literally anywhere else.

I would highly advise anyone not to take your vehicle to Dane motors.I had my car towed there because the starter went out and it was running just fine before that but they end up messing my car up and have now had it for several months, they offered my wife a loaner car that doesn't have any plates on it.They are very unprofessional and they are liars.DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THESE PEOPLE.

The people at Danes are really kind, and seem to want to do their best to get your car in and out as fast as possible. I had some issues with them that resulted in me having to return 4 or so times to get my car fixed which was a bummer, but I appreciated that they were willing to fix the mistake made/ get the initial problem solved. John gave me a ride home the day they made the first mistake (was an issue with a part of the rear diff being the wrong part installed causing a nasty grinding noise when I drove off, and then the check engine light came back on) and was super kind and I didn’t feel as though he was talking down to me, being 22. I think the issue was we were all tired of how long it was taking to get the stupid check engine light off. After coming back for the fourth time, I never wanted to see these guys again, no matter how nice they were haha. I had agreed to replace the catalytic converter, which hurt my heart, soul, and wallet. When I saw that light turn on three times after I dropped so much money I was pissed, and they were definitely unhappy with the result as well. They were kind and gave me a loaner car, and drove it to the front of the shop, keys in ignition and everything which was super nice, but when I got home I realized the car had no license plates. I’d say half on me for not checking, but also probably not the best idea to give out a car that doesn’t have plates on it even if it’s registered. That would’ve been an awkward and possibly expensive ticket. I think I wouldn’t go back to Danes for anything else car related because I felt like they were trying to rush through things and get work done as fast as possible, which I get. Everyone’s trying to just live and make money and i really do get that diagnosing cars isn’t a perfect science. I’d recommend them for simple problems where you know what’s wrong from the start, and probably not recommend going for larger jobs or diagnosing problems. Ps, you guys left a grape vape in my car, as well as some rags. It made me laugh, and the rags come in handy for checking fluids and stuff- thank you! The vape not so much lol, but still funny. Thanks for taking care of my car the best you could at the time, for reference, I went in for the first time 1-4-2024 and last time 1-24-2024 ish.
