The advantages of LED lighting over halogen are well documented and the ban of Halogen lamps in the UK from 2018 has increased their popularity and demand.
If you happen to have been hiding under a rock somewhere and therefore unaware of these advantages we’ve summarised below:

-Reliability.
-Instantaneous illumination.
In some cases changing your downlights from Halogen to LED is simply a lamp (bulb) replacement. This relies on your existing downlights being GU10 fittings that are fire-rated . If the GU10 fittings aren't fire rated its sensible to consider upgrading them.
It’s much more common for us to encounter MR16 spotlights, which have a transformer hidden in the ceiling offering no fire protection. Literally 1000's of these were fitted in the 90's and early noughties. They are now not considered a great option with high running costs and unreliability with the transformers failing forcing people to look for an alternative.
If you currently have halogen downlights then its likely the heat from the lamp has damaged the ceiling around the cut out hole making it brittle and crumbly. Its also likely that the decorative bezel is yellowing/tarnishing. A replacement fire rated LED downlight is the answer and will give much safer, better looking lighting.
