Dealing with problematic downlights is one of our most common jobs. Two of the more common downlight problems we encounter are:
Old Lights: The customer has halogen MR16 lamps in a non fire rated fitting fed from a transformer hidden in the ceiling. Lots of these were fitted in the early 2000's. These lights have a high failure rate and unfortunately the heat from the halogen lamps combined with a transformer and a non fire rated fitting make these a potentially dangerous option. If you have these we always recommend changing the complete fitting for a fire rated LED fitting.
Poorly Fitted Lights: The installer has made a mess from installing the lights into the ceiling and they don't sit correctly. There can also be poor connections to the lights where live conductors are exposed in the ceiling and connections loose causing arcing and heat.
If you are having problems with your downlights and want them sorted once and for all give us a call.
