Does your fuse board have surge protection?
An electrical consumer unit, also known as a distribution board or fuse board, is an essential piece of equipment in any home or commercial building. It is responsible for the distribution of electricity throughout the property and protects against overcurrents and short circuits.
In the past, consumer units were not equipped with surge protection devices (SPDs), which left them vulnerable to damage from electrical surges. However, today’s units come with SPDs as standard, providing an extra layer of protection against this type of damage.
SPDs are designed to limit the voltage that can enter the consumer unit, thereby protecting the circuit breakers and other components from damage should a surge occur. They work by diverting excess electricity away and are typically installed at the point where the electricity enters the property.
If you don't currently have a surge protection device, or if you are unsure, please feel free to get in touch as we would be glad to discuss the best course of action.
