5 signs your electrical system needs an upgrade:
Frequent Circuit Breaker Trips: If your circuit breakers are tripping often, it may indicate that your electrical system is overwhelmed or has a fault that needs to be investigated.
Flickering Lights: If your lights flicker or dim during use, or when you use another appliance, it could be the sign of a more serious underlying fault.
Age of Electrical System: If your electrical system is more than 20-30 years old, it may be time for an upgrade. Old wiring and other components can become a fire hazard as they degrade and older consumer units do not offer the same fault protection as modern models.
Outdated Wiring: Light circuits installed prior to 1966 did not require an earth connection, if this is the case you should ensure you don’t have any metal or class 1 electrical fittings on the circuit, and ideally have it rewired.
Odd smells or sounds: If you notice any odd smells or sounds that you can’t account for, it could potentially be coming from your electrical installation. If you are unsure, turn your power off and call an electrician as soon as possible.
