🏡 Aging in Place: A Growing Housing Trend
A new Pew Research Center survey highlights an important trend in housing: most older Americans want to remain in their homes as they age.
📊 Key findings from the study:
• 93% of adults age 65+ currently live in their own home or apartment
• 60% say they would prefer to stay in their home and receive care there if needed
• 18% would consider moving to assisted living
• 11% would prefer to move in with family
However, many seniors aren’t fully confident their preferred living situation will happen. Factors like health care needs, housing costs, and the affordability of in-home care all play a role. In fact, only 21% of adults 65+ have long-term care insurance to help cover these expenses.
This trend is shaping the housing market by increasing demand for:
✔️ Aging-in-place home designs
✔️ Renovations for accessibility
✔️ Multigenerational living spaces
As America’s population ages, homes that support comfort, accessibility, and long-term livability will continue to grow in importance.
