🏡 Goodbye Open Concept… Hello “Broken” Floor Plans
For years, open floor plans were the must-have feature but today’s buyers are shifting priorities. More homeowners are embracing “broken” floor plans, a design that creates separate, functional spaces while still maintaining an open, connected feel.
đź’ˇ What is a broken floor plan?
It’s the perfect middle ground between open concept and traditional layouts—using design elements like:
• Partial dividers or glass partitions
• Ceiling or floor changes
• Strategic furniture placement
• Subtle architectural details
✨ Why buyers love it:
✔️ Better privacy for work, school, and daily life
✔️ Improved noise control
✔️ Ideal for multigenerational living
✔️ More defined, functional spaces without feeling closed off
🔨 Easy ways to update your space:
• Add open shelving or double-sided bookcases
• Use wood slat screens or glass dividers
• Incorporate rugs, curtains, and soft materials to absorb sound
• Create “zones” with furniture and layout changes
