As a woman, if you've ever found yourself emotional and angry but have a difficult time expressing yourself - you're not alone. Though women have been socialized to minimize their emotional expression, it's also important to recognize how neural circuitry plays into this cycle as well.
According to the book "The Female Brain", women must work harder to override neural circuitry in order to express anger and conflict. This is understood to be a protective mechanism that is designed to maintain relationships. However, once this hurdle is passed, the female brain has a greater capacity and fluency for verbalization and emotional expression than the male brain does.
