We noticed it as soon as we opened the driver’s door of the bright yellow-orange Lamborghini that had come to the shop for a seven-year ceramic coating – letters scrawled in black marker on the inside of the door frame.
Whoever had written the words didn’t have the greatest handwriting – the scrawl was nearly indecipherable. “Val” – something, maybe. Then “B” – something. Then, two more words, one of which might have been “Lamborghini.” Nothing else except a date, which was the most legible thing of all – 08/21.
It wasn’t much to go on, but we took what we had to Google. After a while, we were able to figure it out:
“Valentino Balboni”
“Automobili Lamborghini”
“08/21”
If there is a human face that reflects the essence of Lamborghini automobiles, it is the face that belongs to Valentino Balboni, Lamborghini’s now-retired chief test driver.
Balboni came to Lamborghini as a teenager who didn’t even have a driver’s license. He started out cleaning up the shop, then rose to mechanic. From there, he became the company’s lead test driver.
He personally test-drove around 80 percent of all the Lamborghinis that rolled out of the factory. Since he signed this particular car, we can safely assume that he test-drove this one, as well.
It was an honor for us to coat the finish on this beautiful Lamborghini – tested personally by Valentino Balboni and now protected by CoaterZ.
