Water Safety Tips from the CARE Team ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Whether your pup is a seasoned swimmer or just enjoys splashing in the shallows, water safety is a must โ€” especially during the summer months! Here are our top tips to keep your pets safe and out of the ER:

๐ŸŒŠ 1. Supervise at all times
Even strong swimmers can tire quickly, panic, or get caught in currents. Always keep eyes (and hands!) on your pet near pools, lakes, or beaches.

๐Ÿฆบ 2. Life jackets aren't just for people
Small dogs, senior pets, or those with short legs (looking at you, corgis!) benefit from a well-fitted life vest. Safety + adorable? Yes, please!

๐Ÿšซ 3. Watch for signs of water intoxication
Too much water swallowed while playing can lead to electrolyte imbalances โ€” symptoms include lethargy, bloating, vomiting, or loss of coordination. If in doubt, call us!

๐Ÿšฟ 4. Rinse off after swimming
Chlorine, saltwater, or lake bacteria can irritate your petโ€™s skin and ears. A quick rinse helps prevent infections and keeps their coat healthy.

โ›” 5. Never force a swim
Not all pets love water, and thatโ€™s okay! Let them explore at their pace and never throw them in.

If you ever have questions or your pet has a water-related scare, our emergency team is here to answer your questions โ€” 757-703-0199

๐Ÿ’ง Stay safe and enjoy the splash responsibly!
