This 120 year old clock has come to us for restoration, it was made in the USA & are more commonly known as a gingerbread clock, they are not very valuable but the lady has sentimental attachment to the clock as it belonged to her grandparents, it has spent its life above a fire place in Ireland, the fire burnt peat most of the time the lady remembers this as a child, this is very evedent as the movement has a thick black coating a bit like tar & needs a complete stripe down and ultrasonically cleaned resembling & oiling, the dial will be replaced but the old dial will be left in place underneath, this is best practice with antique clocks, the case will be cleaned carefully & waxed this is all that is needed, we don't want it looking new it's an antique, the hands should be a brass colour & are solid brass but as you can see they are blackened because of the peat burning fireplace, the movement is in the same sort of state, I will post pictures of the restored clock.
