A Smiths Brass Ships Clock Made probably 1947, they are well made & With Proper Servicing You can expect it to run another 70 Years, The Movement Was Completly Dismantled & Every Bushing Hole Was Checked & Rebushed if There is any Sign of wear whatsoever, also all pinions where Checked & Repaired if necessary, then they are burnished & Polished the Main spring is also Replaced, many Antique Clock Mainsprings are Still Manufactured so our Theory is if you can still get the spring Replace it as part of the Service, its Good practice & Makes Sense as the Clock has Been Dismantled. The case is Polished & Buffed & a very Thin Coat of Lacquer is applied to the case this is to keep the case looking good for as long as possible, We only Very Lightly Lacquer the Case We dont want it looking like a Toffee Apple, eventualy The Lacquer does deteriorate then giving it a polish from time to time with a good metal polish will keep it looking good, if the Lacquer is to thick when you polish it becomes patchy, if you look at the Picture of the 5 Ships Clocks this one is bottom Left & Looks Like it Had Never Been Polished but usually the brass is of the Old Variety so the quality is there so you will get good results with Polishing
