These are just a few pictures of a Grandfather clock made in Liverpool by Steven Hurst c1780 , this clock came to our workshops in the worst condition possible, the case was literally falling apart, the Peruvian mahogany case had completely dried out & had completely lost all its luster, we had our work cut out to say the least the 1st thing we did was to take all of the decorative timbers off the case, then give the main case a feed with oils & waxes, the case slowly started to come back to life, then we worked out what parts could be reattached securely, we had to make a few moldings using old mahogany timber we salvaged, this keeps everything authentic, you simply can not buy these timbers anymore, after all repairs & a good clean we gave all the timber a quality wax feed, we were now happy with the case so we went to work on the movement that had not run for about 30 years, this was completely dismantled cleaned & a lot of bushing & pivot work followed after reassembly the movement sprung back to life striking on the hour just as it did many years ago, the clock will be tested for two weeks then we will return & professionally install the clock in its new home as its been handed to the next generation of the family who have owned the clock for over 150 years & still have the original bill of sale, we are delighted with the results & im sure the family will be pleased as they thought this was the end of the road.
