This is a 30 hour Grandfather Clock Movement dating From around 1750, it has not had any work or a service for many Years, The Movement as you can see is very dirty & Worn, This Clock movement was Completly made by Hand & you Can See the Geometric Scribe Marks Left by The Clockmakers Compass as he has Marked The Positions of The Strike & Chime Train Wheels, I often Look at these Clocks With a Sense Of Wonderment & Relise Just how Things Have Changed, We now have Machines & Tools That Would Make Easy Work of These Jobs, Its a Sad Fact That Clockmaking is an Endangered Part of The Engineering World ,When you Think This Clock Has been around For over 250 Years imagine The Storys it Could Tell, its sad that Old Clocks are no Longer Valued, So next time you look at your old Clock Give Some thought to the Work Time & Craftmanship That that Old clockmaker put into that Clock, This Clock has been with this Family for 100 year & it Holds Great Sentimental Value, but ill bet it held Sentimental value to the other Previous Genarations Who Owned it before Them, it was once Said to me By an Old Clockmaker, We are only Custodians of These Clocks as they will end up Somewere Else 100 years from now ! Who Knows Maybe the Other Side Of The World, I am Blessed i was Taught the Art Of Clockmaking & The Chance To Keep these Clocks Going & On to There Next Destination, its not always an Easy Job but The Job Satisfaction is hard to beat.
