This small French clock movement made c1860 has come to our workshop with the fault reported stops after a few minutes, on inspection it was very obvious someone had been a bit enthusiastic with oil, the movement is soaked in it, so it will be cleaned & a new mainspring fitted, to much oil and the wrong oil cause excessive wear to the movement, & expensive repairs, we see this often due to the fact there are so few clockmakers left.
