I absolutely recommend Choice Auto Repair.
Here are two examples of why I think they’re an automotive repair company you can feel good about using for all your needs.
Community and Care: I first became aware of the repair shop and the owner – Alton, through the local Z-Car Club (Datsun/Nissan car club). He donated two services to the Z-Car Club’s raffle at their annual car show to help raise money for a non-profit that utilizes horses to help people with various disabilities - a version of animal therapy. I was lucky enough to win one of those services which was a front-to-back evaluation of my 1973 Datsun 240Z. Alton spent a few days thoroughly going over it, especially the areas I asked him to look at. When he was done, he brought me in while it was still on the lift and not only walked me through all the areas he thought needed attention, characterizing them in an “immediate,” “soon,” or “when convenient” sort of way, but also answered many more questions I had. We spent probably a good hour going over a bunch of little items, discussing things that had nothing to do with any repairs I needed. He definitely treated me as if he had nothing else to do that day, and I really appreciated it. His shop was busy, so I’m confident he had plenty of work waiting for him. Now, he did get some work from me, so it was a good investment on his part, but we only tackled about 30% of the repairs he identified. I was thoroughly satisfied with all of his repairs. The car ran significantly better after he and his team worked on it. They even got the original air conditioner to work well.
Above-and-Beyond Service: The second example shows the kind of customer service Alton and his crew invest in their business. I hesitate to use this example, because I’m sure he can’t sustain a business doing this every week, but he did it for me and it’s worth sharing. My family was moving from NC to Ohio. We were packing up the house, had loaded the last of the 3 PODS, and I was preparing my Datsun to be shipped to our new home. While I was repositioning my car, it just died. I couldn’t get it started, no matter what I tried. I called Alton to see what he thought, even though none of his repairs touched the fuel system. I had rebuilt the mechanical fuel pump to stop a small leak months before he did any work on the car, but that was it. During multiple phone calls, he gave me a number of things to check on the car, to include checking the rebuilt mechanical pump and installing a new electric fuel pump. After taking a lot of time to talk me through about all the things a non-mechanic (me) can accomplish, and now with less than a day before we pulled away, he made a house call! He showed up, and spent a couple of hours under my car. Ultimately, he identified faulty electrical contacts for the electric fuel pump somewhere under the dash. (What do you expect with a 50+ year old car?) Alton had her purring again!
Every time I drive my Datsun here in Ohio, I think about the fantastic work and service Alton and his crew has provided, because the car runs so well. If I find a shop here with even half the dedication and service that I found with Alton and his team at Choice Auto Repair, I’ll be ecstatic.
