If you drive a modern diesel vehicle, you may have seen warnings for Eolys, AdBlue, or DPF additive — but they’re not the same system.
🔵 Eolys Additive (Peugeot, Citroën, Ford, Volvo, etc.)
Stored in a small tank near the fuel tank
Injects automatically when you refuel
Helps the DPF regenerate at lower temperatures
Needs refilling every 70k–120k miles (depending on model)
Requires an additive counter reset after refilling
If Eolys runs low, the DPF will stop regenerating, leading to rapid blockage.
⚪ AdBlue (SCR / Emissions System)
Stored in a separate tank, topped up like fuel
Sprays into the exhaust to reduce NOx emissions
Does not help the DPF regenerate
Low AdBlue can trigger “No start in X miles” warnings
AdBlue faults often cause emissions warnings, limp mode and sometimes DPF issues if the system prevents regeneration.
