What should I consider when hiring a water well/pump repair professional? There are several criteria you can use to evaluate and select someone. You should know that there are two types of companies: 1) Full-service water well system companies that drill the well, install the pump, and install the rest of the system including components such as water pressure tanks and water treatment; and 2) Companies that do part of the work, such as drilling the well or installing the pump. Unless you know exactly what the problem is, you should use a full-service water well professional to avoid paying for multiple contractors to fix your problem - which can get very expensive fast. Also, prior to selecting a water well professional for a job, it is a good idea to check whether the contractor: 1) is licensed with the state to do the work; 2) is certified by the National Ground Water Association; 3) submits well logs on the well construction; 4) has adequate equipment in good condition; 5) has adequate liability and workers’ compensation insurance to protect you; 6) is familiar with applicable health and safety codes; 7) has been in business for a long time and has good reviews/reputation; and 8) will furnish a written contract specifying the terms and conditions of the job.
