Bats in Your Attic? Why Timing Is Everything 🦇
Hearing high-pitched squeaking or scratching in your roofline? You may have a bat colony. While bats are vital to our ecosystem, they shouldn’t be your roommates.
The "Maternity Season" Rule:
In Ontario, bats are protected. Between May and mid-August, bats give birth and raise flightless pups in the attic. You must never perform an exclusion during this time. Sealing entry points while pups are inside is not only inhumane but often illegal, as it traps the colony and leads to a major sanitation hazard as they perish.
Our Humane, Professional Approach:
At Brothers Wildlife Removal, we follow the natural rhythm of the colony:
• Identification: We locate every entry point—bats can squeeze through gaps as small as 1/4 inch.
• The "Wait-and-See" Strategy: If pups are present, we wait until the colony is mobile and able to fly before beginning the work.
• One-Way Valves: Once the timing is right, we install one-way bat valves. These allow the colony to exit at dusk to forage, but physically prevent them from re-entering.
• Permanent Sealing: After the colony has moved on, we perform a professional exclusion to seal gaps, preventing future access.
• Decontamination: We offer specialized cleaning to remove guano and ensure your attic air quality is safe.
Don't risk a DIY mistake. If you suspect bats, call us for an inspection. We ensure your home is protected while respecting the local wildlife cycle.
