Stuck on the Side of the Road? Step-by-Step What to Do to Stay Safe 🚨
Breakdowns are stressful. Do this in order:
1️⃣ Get out of traffic
If the car moves, pull as far right as possible. Shoulder > exit ramp > parking lot.
2️⃣ Turn on hazard lights immediately
Let other drivers see you before they’re close.
3️⃣ Stay inside the vehicle (most of the time)
Seatbelt on. Getting out on a busy road is more dangerous than staying put.
4️⃣ If you must exit, do it safely
Exit away from traffic and stand well off the roadway, preferably behind a guardrail.
5️⃣ Don’t try roadside repairs in traffic
Changing tires or poking under the hood on a highway is risky. This isn’t the time to “figure it out.”
6️⃣ Call for help
Professional help gets you out of danger faster than guessing.
