This bathroom is in a Trail Creek, Indiana home we are restoring right now. On the left is how it looked when we started: a blotchy, water-stained ceiling and walls that had been holding moisture. On the right is the same bathroom after demo, with the damaged ceiling and wall removed so the framing can dry.
Why open it up? Because wet drywall and wet insulation do not dry on their own. They sit against the wood framing, and that is where mold gets started. Taking out what cannot be saved is the only way to dry what can.
Here is what we did in this Trail Creek bathroom:
• ✅ Marked and cut the ceiling cleanly along the walls
• ✅ Removed wet drywall and insulation
• ✅ Opened the wall around the window to check the framing
• ✅ Left the shower and tile floor in place
• ✅ Got the framing exposed and drying
Living this close to Lake Michigan means heavy rain, lake effect snow and strong storms off the water. Roof leaks, ice dams and wind damage are common here, and the damage usually shows up first as a spot on the ceiling.
BlueRed Restoration provides water damage restoration in Trail Creek, IN and the towns around it: Michigan City, Long Beach, Pottawattamie Park, Michiana Shores and the rest of LaPorte County. We handle:
