A persistent basement odor is often the result of a small leak that goes unnoticed, and that’s exactly what we found in this Granger home. Moisture had slowly absorbed into the carpet and pad in the family’s movie room, eventually saturating the materials and creating a strong smell. In situations like this, extraction alone won’t solve the problem — contaminated padding must be removed so the source of the odor is eliminated.
For this project, we disengaged the carpet, removed the saturated pad, sanitized the subfloor, and replaced tack strips that could no longer be salvaged. After completing structural drying and verifying moisture levels, we reinstalled the carpet and returned the room to a clean, safe condition. Proper drying and material replacement are essential steps to prevent long‑term damage and ensure the odor doesn’t return.
