A lingering odor in a basement can often be traced back to a small leak that went unnoticed, and that was exactly the case for this Granger home. The family’s movie room had developed a strong smell after moisture slowly built up in the carpet and pad, eventually saturating the area. Instead of attempting extraction — which doesn’t solve odor issues caused by contaminated materials — the correct approach is to disengage the carpet, remove the affected padding, and replace the source of the odor entirely.
For this project, we pulled the carpet back, removed the saturated pad, sanitized the subfloor, and replaced tack strips that were no longer salvageable. Once the structure was fully dried and verified, we reinstalled the carpet and restored the room to a clean, safe condition. Proper structural drying is essential in situations like this, and it was the homeowner’s top priority when they called us.
The photos show the before‑and‑after results of the pad replacement — a simple but important step in eliminating odor and preventing long‑term damage.
