Elkhart: if you find a water leak tonight, this is what happens when you call us. 👇
Most people have never had a restoration crew in their house, so here is our process in four steps. The photos are from a recent job.
1. INSPECT. Water travels. It runs along framing, soaks into subfloors and shows up rooms away from where it started. We use moisture meters on ceilings, walls and floors to map exactly how far it went, so we dry everything that is wet and tear out nothing that is not.
2. PROTECT. Before any equipment comes through the door, we cover your floors and wrap what stays in the room. Your home should not get damaged by the people fixing it.
3. CONTAIN. We build plastic walls around the work area. That keeps dust and damp air out of the rest of your house and makes the drying faster.
4. DRY. Air movers push dry air across every wet surface while a dehumidifier pulls the moisture out. We check readings until the structure is dry, not until it looks dry.
Skip a step and a small leak becomes a mold problem a few weeks later.
Elkhart sits where the St. Joseph River and the Elkhart River meet, and anyone who was here for the February 2018 flood knows what water can do. Most water damage is not from river floods, though. It is frozen pipes in January, water heaters that let go, washing machine hoses, and sump pumps that fail during a spring storm.
