We chose Blakney Electric for our Generac generator installation based on a past experience, but this time was disappointing from start to finish. The installation took place on January 29, 2025. Prior to that, a representative explained the process to us, and I was told I’d need to be home on the day of the install. I wasn’t sure why I had to take the whole day off, especially with no power and freezing temperatures. I arranged to be home in the afternoon, as I was told the work would be completed by 1PM and someone would walk me through how to operate the generator. Instead, the work wasn’t finished until around 4PM, and the only interaction I had was a worker briefly telling me they were done—no explanation, no instructions. The next day, I inspected the installation and was immediately disappointed. The wiring had not been run along the foundation as told, and the propane lines were mounted on a metal post over 3 feet high—something we were never told. I was also unaware a second company, Maritime Fireplace, was involved until they unexpectedly contacted me. Both companies later acknowledged the miscommunication and assured me the issues would be addressed once the ground thawed in spring. In late April, I followed up and was told I was on the list. Eventually, I was informed the work would be done the next day and that I didn’t need to be home. After more delays, I came home one day to find the electrical wiring had been buried—but the propane lines, my main concern, were still untouched. To make matters worse, wires had been screwed directly into my siding, leaving visible holes and black marks on my less-than-a-year-old home. I sent an email to clarify that the exposed propane lines were still an issue. I was then told burying those would cost an additional $2,500. I was open to paying it—if it would actually fix the problem. We met to discuss options, I was told the propane lines could be buried, but it would still require two raised posts. That didn’t solve the issue—I would still disliked the appearance. Though the siding was cleaned, they didn’t have color-matched caulking, so now I’m left with visible damage. Two weeks later, I received a surprise invoice for $523—apparently for burying the wrong wires, something I never requested. On top of that, my lawn was damaged and now needs to be replanted. After spending $20,000, I’m extremely disappointed with how the installation looks. Overall, this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience. If I could go back, I would absolutely choose a different company
