I’ve used BlackBird Frame and Art since the early 2000s, back when the shop was in Biltmore Village. Though the staff has changed over the past quarter-century and the business eventually changed hands long after their move to Merrimon Avenue, the quality remains constant. It is the philosophy put into place so many years ago: hire only people who care about art, framing, and doing the work right. I don't mean that to sound like an advertisment, which it sorta does, but it's the truth as with every professional experience I ever had with the company.
Over the years I’ve framed more than two dozen pieces with them. Not one has shifted in its matting, and not a single corner—out of well over 100—has separated or even started to pull, as corners often do.
Their cost, when comparing apples to apples, is exceptionally reasonable—if not quite a bit less expensive than other high-end quality framing shops my friends and family have used. My only problem is remembering to bring my next framing item with me to Asheville.
