We visited Bikanervala yesterday during lunch hours. We ordered Chola Bhatura, a Thali, Mango Lassi, Rasmalai, Sweet Lemon Soda, and Pani Puri. Since we were with our 9-year-old child, the salesperson who took our order gave my child a complimentary sweet. The place was crowded when we arrived, and we had to take a two-seater table and add an extra chair for our child.
The place is a little cramped for lunch outings and would be ideal for just having snacks. Regarding the food, the Thali included one piece of naan and two pieces of wheat paratha with some rice, raita, a sweet, and three vegetable dishes (Dal Makhni, Kadai Paneer, and Malai Kofta). The parathas were sweet and doughy, and they seemed to have been reheated from frozen. As for the vegetable dishes, they were just okay, except for the Dal Makhni.
The Chola Bhatura had dark channa dal, and it was too buttery. The gravy was thick and not as flavorful as one would expect in such a setting. Both the Thali and Chola Bhatura came with a mixed vegetable pickle, which was decent.
The Mango Lassi had pieces of frozen mango in it, and the Rasmalai was pretty good. Overall, this place relies on the "Bikanervala" name but doesn't do much to distinguish itself. It might attract overflow crowds from a well-marketed neighbor (I'll write about it once I get a chance to eat there).
