Included Bark = Future Failure 🌳⚠️
Not all tree problems are obvious.
One of the most dangerous structural defects we see is included bark — where two co-dominant stems grow together with bark trapped between them instead of solid wood connection.
That bark acts like a wedge.
Over time, as the stems increase in weight and wind load, the union weakens. Add rain, decay, or storm stress… and failure becomes a matter of when, not if.
Most homeowners don’t notice it until the split happens.
As an ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ qualified tree risk assessor, we evaluate structural defects like included bark before they turn into property damage or injury.
If you have a tree with:
• Tight “V” shaped unions
• Cracks forming at the base of stems
• Multiple large stems from one trunk
• Visible separation during wind
It’s worth having it assessed.
Don’t wait for gravity to make the decision for you.
