One of the most dangerous structural defects we see is included bark — where two co-dominant stems grow together with bark trapped between them instead of solid wood connection.
That bark acts like a wedge.
Over time, as the stems increase in weight and wind load, the union weakens. Add rain, decay, or storm stress… and failure becomes a matter of when, not if.
Most homeowners don’t notice it until the split happens.
