The efficiency of a given furnace is measured by its AFUE rating (annual fuel utilization efficiency). This furnace efficiency rating is simply a ratio between the amount of fuel converted to heat and the amount of fuel that enters the furnace. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the furnace.
