It is getting into the cold season again, and we would like to remind our customers and neighbors that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In order to save your pipes there are a few things you can do. First, ensure all exposed pipes and water lines are empty if possible, if not leave a very small trickle running in such a manner that it cannot ice over. Second never put antifreeze in any waterline not made specifically for antifreeze. Antifreeze is a poison and an environmental hazard. Third, install pipe sleeve or pipe foam around exposed bibs and faucets.
Remember, never thaw a pipe with an open flame! It's dangerous, can melt the solder, and cause pipes to crack.
