I would have given this office a 4-Star review for my appointment. Office is clean, employees friendly and they're quick and effective. However, I am giving them a 1-Star review for their lack of conscientiousness. My partner is disabled and on Disability. He pays $600 of his $1100 per month to child support because his children are everything to him. He signed up for the free Canadian dentist plan because he needs to. His first visit was today and despite knowing he is in pain from a broken tooth, this office refused to see him unless he paid $50 for the visit, after the coverage. For people not in the know, the reason there is an additional fee is because this office, charges more then the fee guide that the Dental Association puts out each year and the amount the government negotiated with the Association for the dental benefit plan. This is a common practice for greedy dentist, but is not the norm. It's actually frowned upon as good dentists care more about healthy smiles then profit, similar to family doctors. The fee guides are reasonable and profitable if the office manages there office spend effectively. So charging a patient 10% of his monthly takehome income is not about staying in the black, but about frivolous spend. I recommend people find another more conscientious dentist office that doesn't take from struggling people to pay their frivolous lifestyle. If patients allow this practice of over charging to become the norm, then it will and the free plan will not be effective. Don't let Dentists like this ruin this support program. Or maybe it will bleed into OHIP as well.. if dentist can charge more, then why not Doctors? This is a gateway issue to ruining free Healthcare in Canada. I speak with 8 years as a Finance Manger of a provincial dental chain and as Finance Project Manager for 2 years at a nationwide dental chain.
