Stay safe and successful on the water with our 2026 Highland Lakes Spring Launch Guide. Whether you’re heading to Horseshoe Bay or Kingsland, here is the essential update for Lake LBJ and Lake Buchanan boaters.

1. Lake Levels & Boating Access
As of February 19, 2026, Lake Buchanan is at 94% capacity (1,017.63’ MSL), nearly 7 feet above the historical average. Thanks to the new LCRA year-round conservation pool of 1,020 feet, we are seeing more stable water than ever. While Lake Travis sits at 78%, Lake LBJ remains at its constant level (~824.8’ MSL). Public ramps like the Wirtz Dam/Cottonwood Ramp are fully operational and deep.

2. 2026 White Bass Run Update
The run is LIVE. Water temperatures are hitting the 58-60°F "Goldilocks zone." Schools are moving up the Llano River arm and Cowhouse Creek. The Kingsland Slab is the top spot for access, while crappie are active near the 290 Bridge in 15-30 feet of water.

3. Zebra Mussel Alert & Fines
Texas Game Wardens are strictly enforcing "Clean, Drain, Dry" policies. Transporting invasive species can result in a $500 fine. Ensure you decontaminate hulls with 140°F water and ballast tanks with 120°F water before switching lakes.

4. Hazard Warning
The 2025 "Debris Legacy" remains a threat. Watch for submerged logs in the Llano arm. If you hit a hazard, Bay Marine and Sports Center offers same-day propeller repair to get you back on the water.
