Overall our experience with BOR Austin did not match all the other reviews here describing excellent communication and speed of service, which left us feeling disappointed and confused on the experience we had.
Our project was pretty small in comparison to other jobs which we thought should be smooth sailing and efficient work. Unfortunately, we experienced the opposite. We had two spots (see photos for context) in the ceiling with some water damage and it took BOR 5 weeks to complete the project. We know people who have had kitchens redone in 5 weeks. My wife and I couldn’t use our offices (WFH) for that whole time.
We called BOR to address water damage caused by roof leakage. The roofing company we worked with completed the roof repairs within 48 hours of their quote, which made the extreme inefficiencies and delays from BOR extra perplexing. Their timing and duration of work was perplexing: There were some weeks where crew only came one time, and days that they worked for less than an hour. We never knew when they would show up and felt like we had to hound Carlos to get updates or schedule the next work day.
This leads to our other major complaint: there was absolutely no proactive communication or scheduling with us. We had to be our own project managers for this fix putting us in awkward positions of advocating for our project to the point we felt like we were being rude. In comparison to the roofing company/mold company we also dealt with in this project, the communication was a stark difference between these different companies.
Whenever we did try initiate communication regarding the schedule or advocacy, we often were met with curtness and deflection. When the project dragged on, Carlos said it was because of competing projects—but if we had had this information up front, or regular updates from the company on when to expect work, we could have tempered our expectations. But on the first day we had been told the water remediation would take four hours—that was barely enough time for them to set up the containment zone so our expectations were off from the start. Additionally the workers onsite would tell us one thing while Carlos would tell us another, or they seemed to be confused about what was actually going on (such as during the mold remediation).
Other sore spots with this project included being asked to supply crew with supplies like extension cords, paint brushes, and other material; losing furniture hardware; walls that were unaffected with this project somehow became discolored (see photo) even after cleaning; texturing the walls before paint look clumpy and don’t match the other walls in the room; tape ripping off unaffected ceiling paint with noticeable patches now; scratched floor in one room and messy painting edges we redid ourselves.
Another factor impacting our poor experience besides the lack of communication and slowness of work, was the fact we had to pay another company over $500 just to clean the worksite. This company seems to be the sister of BOR so it felt like we were just being upcharged for an incomplete job.
