I scheduled an appointment to address significant sciatica pain running from my lower back down my left leg. Despite having an appointment, I waited 45 minutes in the waiting room and another 45 minutes in the exam room before finally seeing someone—for only 5 minutes. During that time, I was given a basic explanation of what sciatica is (which I already knew and had explained as the reason for my visit) and was told I’d be referred to a specialist, who would follow up within a week. I was also prescribed a painkiller and muscle relaxer.
A month passed with no contact, so I followed up, only to learn the referral had never been submitted. I ended up finding my own physical therapist, who I’ve been seeing for two months now with great results. Then, seven months after the initial appointment, I received a bill for that brief and ultimately unhelpful visit. Talk about a waste of an afternoon and money.
