Dental implants serve as a substitute for teeth roots that provide a base for permanent or removable teeth. A titanium post is placed in the bone of the missing tooth. The implant then is secured to the jawbone as the bone heals and grows around the implant. A connector post, (an abutment), is then placed on the post to help hold the tooth in place. Once the replacement tooth/teeth are made, they are attached to the abutment. Regular dental care of brushing, flossing, use of mouthwash, and examinations are needed for dental implants.
