Getting certified as an open water scuba diver has been something I have wanted to do for many years. Now that I am 60 yrs old, I finally did it. Being a US Army Veteran, I went through the Veterans program through Aqua-Nut Divers right here in Bakersfield, CA. The whole training staff were knowledgeable and they made all the trainings easy to understand and enjoyable. I haven't had an experience like this in a long time. I have PTSD, I have 4 deployments ranging from Desert Storm to Iraqi Freedom just on this first diving experience, I found diving is like an escape from your thoughts, leaving PTSD back on dry land, and even when you exit the water, all your thoughts are about what you just experienced in the water. To complete our open water and advanced driving certifications, we went to Catalina. We completed 3 dives each day for a total of 9 dives, with each dive I felt more confident and really enjoyed my time under the water. We seen eels, lots of fish, lobsters and even a squid. The staff was very encouraging with their tips and letting me know that I was improving with each dive. I really want you to know, the staff were outstanding, top notch and I wouldn't doubt if they are the best in what they do. Now, I am not saying they were easy on us, because safety is always the top priority, they made sure we understood what could go wrong if you didn't understand a task we had to complete. They also wanted to make sure we knew what to do if something was to happen. During training I had no fear of being under the water, I fully trusted the staff, they made feel comfortable and if something was to happen, they were not going to let anything happen to me. They had my trust way back when were training in the pool. Only thing I regret, is waiting till I was 60 to do this. Don't be like me and wait, act now and get your certification, also age is just a number.

I had a great time going through the open water and advanced scuba diver courses. Eric and Martha are very passionate about diving and they make sure their students are proficient and develop good diving habits. I highly recommend this experience, thank you Eric, Martha, and all the staff.
