The owner, Ryan, delayed seeding our lawn until the very end of Oct 2023. When we expressed concern about this late planting of grass seed, he insisted that he had done this many times over the years and that it would be fine in the spring. When we questioned this further, he looked me in the eye and verbally guaranteed it would grow and that he would reseed in the spring if it did not. The day after he seeded, strong winds had blown the straw and likely some seed away, leaving large areas of bare spots.
When my wife called him this spring (late May 2024) to get the lawn reseeded, he said no because we didn’t water the lawn! As most anyone will recall, the month of May was extremely wet, raining most days, leaving our yard muddy and unwalkable most of the time. He did not contact us this spring at any time with instructions to ensure the lawn would grow successfully. In fact, he said he drove by a couple of times to check but never communicated any suggestions or requirements to ensure a healthy lawn, stating he “doesn’t have time” to talk to all his customers! Collecting our money last fall was apparently the only thing he really cared about. We have learned the value of the owner’s word the hard way and are writing this to hopefully spare someone else a similar experience.
