Billions of dollars in federal spending has now been authorized to combat the Coronavirus outbreak. It’s an unprecedented response – and one that’s creating enormous opportunities for waste, fraud, and abuse.
Our long experience with national emergencies teaches us that some will attempt to profit from others’ misfortune and divert large sums away from the coronavirus response. However, now more than ever, with millions of lives and livelihoods at stake, it’s essential that taxpayer dollars go to public health and other authorized purposes.
