Cheap 3-tab shingles covered the base of a static vent, and roofing caulk was used to seal the shingles over architectural shingles. This approach created a horrific mess and resulted in more issues.
What Went Wrong:

π« Overall, poor workmanship leads to potential leaks and further damage.
The Right Way:

Remove the shingles around the static vent.

Replace the static vent.

Install ice and water shield.

Apply synthetic underlayment.
β
Install the new static vent.
β
Finish with matching shingles.
