Sohaib Rizwi and Illa Rizwi brought their two-month-old son, Mohammed Talim Rizwi, to Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, when the sick baby’s health worsened. The couple, hailing from Muzaffarnagar in UP, had sought treatment at a hospital in Meerut, but the attending doctor suggested consulting liver specialists for children at Amrita Hospital.
Soon, they approached Dr. Mridul Chandra Das, Senior Consultant, and Dr. Arti Pawaria, Clinical Lead and Senior Consultant in the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The baby had a high fever and suffered liver failure. The child had to be put on a ventilator due to a worsening coma due to liver failure for 10 days. The doctors diagnosed the condition as Acute Liver Failure, a very rare occurrence in a two-month-old baby. The couple expressed their gratitude to Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, for their timely intervention and for saving their child. Tarim happens to be one of the youngest & lightest babies with acute liver failure in India to have been saved without liver transplantation (2 months, 4.5 kg). They specifically thanked the doctors at the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
